Recruitment is the first step in joining a sorority. The process can be long and daunting and riddled with uncertainty, but not to worry we will give you all the tips and tricks to put your nerves at ease and make sure you are ready to make the best impression possible!
Be yourself
Our number one tip if you are going through sorority recruitment is to be yourself! Let your personality show through in the conversations that you have and be authentic. Sorority recruiters can usually tell when you aren't being authentic and are telling them what you think they want to hear.

Keep an Open Mind
You may think you know what sorority that you want to join based on family members, friends, or reputation. Ignore this urge and other people's opinions. Every house is unique and the best fit for you is out there, but you have to keep an open mind to find it! On the same note, don't make your decision based on day 1. Everyday you will see a different side to the sorority so try not to get your mind or heart set on any one house too early in the process.

Tell Stories That Showcase You
When sorority recruiters are asking questions, they are trying to get to you know your personality and values. Before going through recruitment, think about your values and a few stories that highlight those values. For instance, if you value family and relationships, talk about how you and your grandma bake cookies every year and how she has impacted your life. If you value experiences and adventure, talk about your summer trip where you did something adventurous and how you got out of your comfort zone. Basically, think about what you want the recruiter to know about your values and personality and find stories and examples that exemplify them.
Enjoy the Process
You may be stressed or putting a lot of pressure on yourself during recruitment. Try to relax and enjoy the process. You will meet a lot of wonderful women and even if you don't end up in their sorority, you can still remain friends with them after recruitment. Don't put too much pressure on yourself!

Stay Hydrated
During recruitment you will likely spend a fair amount of time outside. It can be really warm and without fail every year, someone will get dehydrated and need to miss part of the recruitment process. Make sure you drink lots of water throughout the day and also at the end of the day to prepare for the next day.
Take Notes
You will talk to so many amazing women and be told all kinds of information at every house. Make sure to jot down your thoughts as soon as you leave the house to make sure you are able to remember each house and the houses don't blur together. Be sure to write down your feelings and the vibe that you get from each house that you can use to make your final decision.
Choose for Yourself
You will undoubtedly make friends with women who are also going through recruitment with you. You may be tempted to discuss your thoughts and try to end up in the same house with some other PNMs that you make friends with. Avoid doing this and make sure you make your decision for yourself. Even if you end up in different sororities, you can still remain friends and you will make new friends in your pledge class even if you didn't meet them during recruitment.
Clean Your Social Media
Before you register for recruitment, make sure to groom your social media to put your best foot forward. Remove any posts that might give the wrong impression and make sure you have posts that reflect your personality, hobbies, and interests.
Dress for Success
Picking out the perfect recruitment outfit can leave some PNMs stressed out. Don't put too much pressure on your outfit. Be sure to follow the guidelines for the dress for each day, but make sure you feel comfortable in your outfit and shoes. You don't want to be tugging or pulling at your clothes all day, so make sure to wear something that fits well, is comfortable, and makes you feel confident!Photo Credit: @trisigmalynnu
